Methodology and sources

EuroTakeHome helps you understand what a German job offer may mean for your monthly budget. Here is what the numbers represent, where they come from, and where they should not be treated as facts.

Last reviewed: 28 July 2026

Take-home calculations

The calculator implements Germany's 2026 payroll-tax program in TypeScript. It accounts for the selected tax class, employee social-insurance contributions, contribution ceilings, the solidarity surcharge, church tax, child allowances, Saxony's care-insurance treatment, and either statutory or private health-insurance inputs.

Automated tests compare representative results against DATEV examples. Results remain estimates: payroll systems can differ because of bonuses, one-off payments, benefits, insurer-specific rates, Freibeträge and personal circumstances not captured by the form.

Salary baselines

A job guide begins with an editorial national monthly gross midpoint. It is a useful starting point for trying the calculator, not an official median and not a city-specific salary claim. Baselines are reviewed against public salary sources, including the Federal Employment Agency's Entgeltatlas. Seniority, industry, company size, working hours and location can move a real offer substantially. Always replace the baseline with the number in your offer.

City and rent comparisons

City tables deliberately hold gross pay constant so you can isolate the budget effect of rent. One-bedroom rents are rounded editorial asking-rent estimates, not official Mietspiegel values, guaranteed market prices or city salary adjustments. They exclude utilities and should be checked against current listings before making a relocation decision.

Review log and corrections

On 28 July 2026, the 2026 Kinderfreibetrag was corrected to €9,756, the social-insurance parameters were refreshed, and the calculator's reference tests were expanded. Job pages were also consolidated from city duplicates into national guides with transparent city-budget scenarios.
